Why Work With Fantastic Mr Box for Skincare Packaging?

Packaging only works when it is designed around the product and built to perform consistently. We focus on structure, fit and repeatability so your packaging is reliable to pack, ship and open every time. Everything is developed around your products to ensure it fits properly and performs as expected.

We are a UK-based packaging company with over 35 years of experience in structural design, artwork and production. All packaging is made in Britain using FSC accredited, recyclable materials, with a focus on practical performance and consistent results.

  • Stage 1: Send your products and brief

  • Stage 2: Plain sample for structural sign off

  • Stage 3: Artwork setup or supply print ready files

  • Stage 4: 3D visuals for approval

  • Stage 5: Production (typically four weeks)

  • Stage 6: Fulfilment if required

  • Skincare packaging includes both primary packaging, such as bottles, jars and pumps, and secondary packaging, such as printed cartons. At Fantastic Mr Box we focus on secondary packaging, used to protect, present and support skincare products for retail and ecommerce. Cartons are often required to provide space for branding, ingredients, barcodes and regulatory information.

  • Skincare packaging is used by skincare brands selling through retail and ecommerce channels. Primary packaging, such as bottles, jars, tubes and containers, holds the product itself. At Fantastic Mr Box we specialise in secondary packaging, which is the outer carton designed to fit around the primary pack and provide protection, presentation and space for regulatory information.

  • For secondary skincare packaging, materials are paper-based, including carton board and greyboard with paper wraps. Carton board is used for most retail packs, with different grades selected based on product weight and required strength. Material choice depends on product size, positioning and the level of finish required.

  • Skincare packaging can be both premium and recyclable when using paper-based materials. Finishes such as foil blocking and single-sided laminates can still allow packaging to be recycled in many cases. At Fantastic Mr Box we use FSC-certified board to ensure the materials are sourced sustainably.

  • Retail skincare packaging is designed for shelf impact and brand visibility. Ecommerce skincare packaging is designed for protection during transit and damage reduction. A single solution can cover both, but this often increases cost or requires structural compromise.

  • Skincare packaging is designed around the exact product dimensions to ensure a precise fit and reduce movement. This improves protection and presentation in both retail and ecommerce. Multiple products can be combined into a single pack with fitments if required.

  • Skincare packaging costs depend on structure, material, print finishes and quantity. Carton board packaging is more cost-effective and reduces significantly at higher volumes. More solid, premium-feel packaging increases cost, but similar results can often be achieved through structure and finishes without relying on rigid box formats.

  • Typical lead time for skincare packaging is around four weeks from artwork sign-off. More complex structures or premium print finishes can extend this. Simpler carton-based solutions are usually achievable within this timeframe.

What Matters in Skincare Packaging

Skincare packaging needs to do more than look premium, it has to perform in retail, protect the product, and reflect the brand clearly at first glance. From material choice to fitment and print, every decision affects how the product is handled, displayed and perceived. Getting these fundamentals right avoids unnecessary cost, damage and rework later.

  • Product protection for glass bottles, pumps and delicate components

  • Clean, efficient sizing to avoid oversized retail packaging

  • Carton board vs rigid board based on positioning and budget

  • Print finishes that enhance brand without affecting recyclability

  • Internal fitments that hold products securely and present them well

  • Clear space for ingredients, compliance and batch information

Common Mistakes in Skincare Packaging

Most issues in skincare packaging come from decisions made too early without understanding how the pack will actually be used or scaled. Early choices around materials, structure and format can lock you into higher costs, slower packing and limited flexibility as volumes grow. Getting this wrong often means having to redesign packaging just as the product starts to gain traction.

  • Starting with rigid packaging too early, making future scaling expensive

  • Oversized boxes that increase cost, shipping impact and retail inefficiency

  • Poorly designed fitments that allow products to move or feel unsupported

  • Overcomplicated structures that slow down packing and increase labour cost

  • Not considering packing speed and assembly at higher volumes

  • Locking into a format that is difficult to adapt as the range expands

How We Approach Skincare Packaging

Skincare packaging needs to work at launch and still scale as volumes grow. We focus on getting structure, materials and format right early, so you avoid costly redesigns later. Everything is built around how the product is packed, shipped and sold, reducing risk, keeping packing efficient and allowing you to scale without downgrading your packaging.

  • Designed around your actual products for accurate sizing and fit

  • Format chosen based on positioning, volume and future scale

  • Carton board and rigid options considered with long term cost in mind

  • Fitments designed for protection and presentation

  • Structures developed for fast, consistent packing

  • Artwork applied once the structure is approved

Sarah Bennett, Brand Manager: “We’d already lost time going back and forth internally, so we needed something that would get signed off without debate. A colleague who’d worked with Steve at a previous agency pointed us to Fantastic Mr. Box, which turned out to be the right call. They simplified the decisions, tightened our artwork, and got leadership aligned faster than we expected. It moved the whole launch forward. Thanks again.”

Tom Walker, Founder: “I’d come across Adam from FMB a few years back, so when our usual supplier started slowing things down, I reached out. They were direct about what would and wouldn’t work, which saved us from making expensive mistakes. Once we had it in hand, everything felt easier to sell, both internally and with retail. That shift alone made it worthwhile. Much appreciated.”
